Carmichael Ceramics

About me

My name is Nathan Carmichael and I am the owner of Carmichael Ceramics. I’m a PhD student at Northeastern University, where I am studying prosthetics from a mechanical engineering background. In my free time, I make high quality functional and decorative pottery in my home studio.

You'll be able to find me selling my pieces at the Natick Farmer's Market a few times a year. All my functional pieces are microwave, dishwasher, and food safe. A 'food-safe glaze' is a term that is often thrown around carelessly under the assumption that any glaze that does not contain lead, cadmium, barium or other highly toxic substances cannot be dangerous for use on functional ware. This is incorrect. The glazes I use inside my pieces are safe, as they have been tested by laboratories and leach metals in negligible amounts. If you would like more information on the subject, please contact me.

I do commission work (within reason), so if you are looking for something more specific, please send me an email with the item, dimensions, and questions about glaze options. If the piece is something I can do, we will discuss pricing.

I hope you enjoy your time shopping at Carmichael Ceramics!
